Inside Rosa’s New Kitchen: The Tools and Appliances You Really Need

In our latest Two Raw Sisters podcast episode, we explore Rosa's new kitchen—sharing the essential tools and appliances you need for a minimalist kitchen. Learn which gadgets are worth the investment, what to leave behind, and how a decluttered space can enhance your cooking experience.

The Essential Tools for a Minimalist Kitchen

So, what do you actually need in your kitchen? For Margo and Rosa, it comes down to a handful of versatile, quality items. In their podcast, they share their must-have list of tools that they swear by.

  1. Big and Small Bowls – Two of each size is enough for most cooking tasks.

  2. Stick Blender – Rosa loves her Breville stick blender with attachments, a handy tool for blending, pureeing, and emulsifying.

  3. Microplane Grater – A simple tool that delivers big results for zesting and grating, but never put it in the dishwasher!

  4. Chopping Board – A large wooden chopping board is an essential for prep.

  5. Chef's Knife – A sharp, sturdy chef’s knife is key to any kitchen.

  6. Loaf Tin & Muffin Tin – For all your baking needs without the clutter of specialty pans.

  7. Wooden Spoons & Serrated Knives – Everyday tools that don’t take up much space but make a world of difference in cooking.

But the sisters are most passionate about one piece of equipment – the cast iron pan. These pans are durable, versatile, and get better with age. Rosa has three different sizes, but she stresses that you don’t need more than one or two. While a quality cast iron pan can be pricey, it’s a lifetime investment.

For non-stick pans, the Two Raw Sisters recommend having just one good-quality pan, rather than a collection of cheaper, less durable options.

Blenders – Vitamix vs Nutribullet

One hot topic the sisters cover is the question of blenders – particularly whether you should invest in a high-end blender like a Vitamix or settle for something more affordable like a Nutribullet. For Margo and Rosa, the Vitamix is a no-brainer. Sure, it’s an upfront investment (around $650 for the E310 model), but it’s built to last. Unlike the Nutribullet, which has sharp blades that dull over time, the Vitamix has blunt blades and a more powerful engine, ensuring consistent performance for years.

What to Ditch in Your Kitchen

Now, let’s talk about the stuff you don’t need. The sisters make it clear that some gadgets just take up space and create clutter.

  • Food Processors – If you already have a Vitamix, you probably don’t need a food processor.

  • Cake Mixers – Only worth it if you bake a lot. For most, a hand whisk or wooden spoon will do just fine.

  • Air Fryers – "Goddamn ugly" and take up too much counter space for something your oven can do just as well.

  • Duplicates & Worn-Out Items – If you haven’t used something in six months, it’s time to donate it.

In the end, it’s about simplifying and streamlining. A cluttered kitchen leads to a cluttered mind, and that’s not the vibe Margo and Rosa want for your space. A minimalist approach to your kitchen will not only make your space more enjoyable to cook in, but it’ll also make your life easier.

Rosa’s philosophy? Bigger kitchen doesn’t mean more gadgets. "You don’t need everything under the sun. You don’t need to get the latest craze. Just use what you need. It’s as simple as that."
